NTF Coach Spotlight: Coach Darwin Bobzien

Darwin’s fitness journey started when he was a kid playing sports. He was a little out of shape, and his older brother was a gym rat who got him into lifting. His brother even gave him a hand-me-down bench press that fit in his bedroom. Once Darwin started training, he wanted to understand more than whatever was trending on YouTube at the time. He dug into the science and anatomy of how the body builds muscle and gets stronger. Before long, he was training his brother, and that’s when his love for coaching other people took off. It became his niche, and he’s grown more passionate about it ever since.

At Napa Tenacious Fitness, Darwin enjoys the steady, non-stop pace of the training floor. He also values how consistent his clients are. They show up on time and rarely cancel, and he says it’s the most consistent schedule he’s had as a trainer. Darwin says he’s learned more about exercise and anatomy at NTF than at any other gym. He likes that our training style is personalized and built around each client’s everyday life, rather than a general bodybuilding or powerlifting routine. One client’s story stands out to him. This client came in with no fitness background and found his spark in the gym once he started training consistently. He then faced a serious health event that required surgery and months of rehab. After about 36 weeks of rehab and cardiovascular training, he came back to the gym and kept training with Darwin. He later had a hip replacement, finished rehab, and came back again. A few months after that, he had his second hip replacement. Each time, he stayed in touch with Darwin and returned ready to go. He has kept up his healthy lifestyle ever since, and he even brought his wife in to train. For Darwin, stories like this are the reason he became a coach.

Outside the gym, Darwin loves to cook. He loves smoking meats, making homemade pizza, and baking bread, and he finds the process calming. After work, his afternoons usually include a workout, then a walk with his dog or a sauna session, then dinner. On the weekends, you can usually find him skateboarding or hiking Alston Park with his dog.
